You begin to live the moment you decide to fly. That means turning and fully detaching from the old ways impeding of you from taking flight. It’s when you think it all over and then run full force in the other direction. It’s an intentional pivot towards that other place, that place we many times won’t know how to get to, but certainly know that’s where we belong.
Woven into the process of finding your wings is the beautiful and irreplaceable need for another. You were never meant to do it alone. Feel the fear and opens up anyways. Defy the lies, reach out and grab hold of the hands extending in your direction, it’s here you’ll begin to pour out the deep, dark secrets crippling you heart.
Perhaps your desire is there, but your arms have long grown weak and the time has come for you to call out. Call out for help and look for the ones who will hold you up. They are there.
You swallow back the cringing pain and surrender to your weakness, only to find your arms lifting back up again. Your support has arrived and come along side you, holding up the weary arms that you yourself no longer can. And that’s okay, for this is where a powerful thing begins to happen.
In the sweet surrender, in the heart-wrenching act of entrusting your mind and broken heart to Him, your eyes have been opened. You suddenly begin to see and understand that which was always there. The unhealthy, the beautiful, and yes the subconscious habit of self-criticism, it’s all rising to the surface. You recognize them because now you are able to put names to the previously unrecognized feelings and long lost desires buried far beneath extreme needs to please others.
Then your eyes slowly rise above the damaged walls and you watch as they begin to fall onto the shaking ground beneath. You don’t slip nor lose your footing because He’s got your hand, and so do the ones surrounding you. They cheer you on as glimmering, new walls begin to rise all around you; high and lovely and capable of both receiving the good and boldly filtering out the bad. It’s your new fortress, your walls of beauty that you’ve created. It’s who you’ve become, strong one. So take your stand and spread out your wings. Your arms will be held high, maybe with the help of others, but they will be lifted.
